Loneliness at Christmas
The sweet, calm solemnity of Christmas Eve and the hearty, noisy celebration of Christmas Day awaits. Family and friends will get together, copious amounts of food will be eaten. The shopping, decorating and other preparations done! Whew!
While many of us look forward to this special time, there are those who see the holidays as a party everyone is enjoying but to which they haven’t been invited. We are told that loneliness peaks at Christmas. While it is often difficult to invite others to celebrate with us on Christmas Day; we may be away, celebrating at the home of others, have a bunch of excited children or “relatives” to deal with. Sometimes, celebrating with a bunch of people a person doesn’t know well can enhance sadness and loneliness. Inviting someone to join in on Christmas Day may be seen as a simple solution but it doesn’t automatically fit all situations. What we can do, though, is to pick up the phone on Christmas Day and plan a coffee meeting or lunch during Christmas week.
And, during the year, we can remember the lonely, the bereaved, the disgruntled and disappointed and endeavor to find creative ways of making sure people know they count and are not forgotten.

Prayers and Intercessions
Prayer for Today
God of power and mercy, You call us once again to celebrate the coming of Your Son. Remove those things which hinder love of You, that when He comes, He may find us waiting in awe and wonder for Him Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Prayer for the Worldwide Anglican Church
We pray for Sokoto (Nigeria) – the Right Reverend Augustin Omole and El Salvador (Central America) – the Right Reverend Juan David Alvarado Melgar.
Diocesan Prayer Care
We pray for Ms. Maria Abate, Episcopal Secretary and Ms. Sophie Bertrand, Manager, Human Resources.
Prayer for our Church family
Our joy isn’t dependent on what is going on in our life, in our world, or the people that we are with. No earthly thing can ever give us complete joy. Help us to remember that true and lasting joy comes only from you. In the Name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
Prayer Team
For those who wish to pray with someone, a prayer team is available after the Service in the left-hand corner of the Sanctuary. The Prayer Team scheduled for today is: Don and Christopher
